The Taste of Quality
Orangutan Coffee is About the Orangutans
Bordering the Gayo Highlands lies the protected Leuser Ecosystem including Gunung Leuser National Park, the last refuge for the critically endangered orangutans. Sumatra is one of two places in the world to observe wild orangutans. The protection of critically endangered orangutans and their rainforest habitat supports an ecosystem of organic coffee growing in the Gayo Highlands and all aspects of conservation.
We support the work of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) through giving 10% of the proceeds from orangutan coffee and products.
The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) is a collaborative initiative between the Indonesia-based NGO the Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari (YEL; Sustainable Ecosystem Foundation), Swiss-based NGO the PanEco Foundation, and the Indonesian Government’s Directorate General of Natural Resource and Ecosystem Conservation. The SOCP works on all aspects of conservation of the Critically Endangered Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis).
